About this product
Passive earmuffs with dense foam-filled cups and a padded steel headband, rated NRR 28. Passive means exactly that: there is no battery, no microphone, no electronics and nothing to charge. The reduction comes from mass and a seal against the side of the head, which is why they keep working for years.
The cups swivel and fold inward so they pack flat, and the cushions are replaceable — the cushions are what fail on earmuffs, long before the shells do. Because nothing is inserted, these are the option for anyone who cannot tolerate plugs, and they can be worn over plugs when noise is genuinely severe.

Fitting protection into a day
Earmuffs live or die on the seal. Everything below is about getting and keeping one.

Adjust so the cups fully enclose the ears
Both ears should sit entirely inside the cushions, not partly under a rim. Slide the headband stems until that is true on both sides.

Clear hair and glasses arms from the seal
A spectacle arm or a band of hair under the cushion breaks the seal and costs you several decibels. Tuck hair back and, if you can, use thin-armed glasses.

Wear over plugs for severe noise
For genuinely severe noise, plugs under muffs is the right answer rather than pressing muffs harder onto your head.

Replace cushions when they harden
Cushions flatten and harden with use and that is what loses the seal. Replace them rather than replacing the muffs.

- When do I replace them?
